How to Play Omaha Hold’em
Omaha is a variation of Hold’em in using a three-card flop, Fourth Street (turn card) and Fifth Street (river card). Each player is dealt four hole cards (instead of two) at the start. In order to make a five card hand, a player must use only two of his hole cards with three community cards. The betting is the same as in Hold’em. At the showdown the four hole cards are shown and the player using the best two hole cards and three community cards will win the pot.
Rules of Omaha
All the rules of Hold’em apply to Omaha, with the exception of playing the board, which is not possible in Omaha. (You must use two cards from your hand and three cards from the board.)
Omaha High-low Split
Omaha is often played high-low split. The player may use any combination of two hole cards and three community cards for the best five card high hand and another (or the same) combination of two holecards and three community cards for the best five card low hand. Low hands are determined by having at least three community cards 8 or less on the board. The player must use two hole cards that are 8 or less out of their hand with the three community cards 8 or less on the board, to make a five card low hand. Straights and flushes do not disqualify the low hand. The best low hand is A-2-3-4-5.
Dealer Button is used to declare who is the dealer. Small blind and then the big blind are the first two positions to the left of the dealer button. Max bet is determined my limit of game (no more than three raises per round), unless heads up.
